Last April, representatives of 5 entities tied to the European VET system gathered in the town of Kells, Ireland, with the goal to kick off the new #Me#Us#Now project, aimed at fighting the effects of climate change in a sustainable and participative way. Ikaslan Bizkaia is one of the participating organisations in this 4-country partnership from Spain, Ireland, Italy and Austria.
The environmental challenges of today require as much cooperation as possible from all areas of education in order to shift our current situation towards more sustainable and greener values. For this reason, the European Commision is co-founding the new #Me#Us#Now project, an endeavor looking to raise the awareness and self-efficacy of young people in the VET sector concerning climate change.
Starting March 2022, 5 European entities have partnered to develop a suite of educational resources for both learners and adult educators and trainers. The first face-to-face meeting to kick off the project took place last April, on the 20th and 21st, in the Irish town of Kells, and Ikaslan Bizkaia participated together with representatives from Austria’s Jugend am Werk Steiermark and the ENTER network, Italy’s Eurocultura and Ireland’s Meath Partnership. The latter is the county-wide community organisation that hosted this meeting to establish the goals and methodologies of the project.
One of the first actions aimed at collecting the views of both educators and students on climate change consists of surveys that will collect information to develop highly tailored resources to use in the future. A survey is geared at learners and their feelings about climate change and sustainability, and another one is directed to teachers and trainers and their views on how to implement resources on sustainability in educational programmes.
Ikaslan Bizkaia has joined this project as part of its commitment to the Sustainable Development Goals and the fight against climate change. We will be working closely with all the organisations involved to develop resources that will help implement this change of values into all layers of the education system, and specifically in the VET sector. The #Me#Us#Now partnership is an Erasmus+ project and it’s expected to continue until February 2024.
